The first leg of the Triple Crown, the 2025 Kentucky Derby, is set for Saturday, May 3, with plenty to enjoy for fanatics of horse racing and fashion alike. In this 151st rendition of the race, 20 3-year-old horses will take the track in hopes of securing the coveted rose garland at the close of the 1 1/4 mile run. This year, the favorite to win it all at 3-1 odds is bay colt Journalism, who has emerged as a Derby darling following a recent three-win streak, having most recently been crowned the winner of the 2025 San Felipe Stakes.

The Kentucky Derby is known for plenty of things — the horses, the celebrity appearances, the fashion (and hats!) ... but one of the most prominent staples of derby day is none other than the fan-favorite mint julep cocktail.

KentuckyDerby.com shares that more than 125,000 mint julep cocktails are served at Churchill Downs each year, spanning the two-day period that encompasses the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby, using more than 10,000 bottles of Kentucky bourbon.
